Tackling the Global Fentanyl Supply Chain: Lessons Learned

Tackling the Global Fentanyl Supply Chain: Lessons Learned

In-person, Members-only

Tuesday, January 21st, 2025 | 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM ET

President-elect Trump has made two of the three main strands of the U.S.-Mexico relationship central to his campaign: immigration and trade. The third strand– that of security and the fentanyl trade in particular– is one that has seen a marked improvement this past year. However, tough rhetoric by factions of the incoming administration, including some who advocate a militarized approach, threaten to obscure other potential solutions to what is a globalized supply chain.
Join us from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, for a conversation with Annie Pforzheimer, Adjunct Professor of International Relations at The City University of New York and former Senior Advisor to the Western Hemisphere Drug Policy Commission. In this event, we will explore the globalized fentanyl supply chain, its nexus in Mexico, and the ways in which public-private partnerships could be effectively used to tackle an industry that claims lives on both sides of the border through overdoses and societal strangulation. Drawing on the speaker’s diplomatic background, we will also explore how diplomacy can be used in combatting the drug trade and how a likely bundled approach to immigration and trade could impact diplomatic efforts to counter fentanyl.
