How China Can Revive Its Economy

How China Can Revive Its Economy

Deep Dives: China 2023 Program

Tuesday, March 28, 2023 | 12:00 PM – 1:15 PM ET

On March 5th, Chinese outgoing Premier Li Keqiang opened the National People’s Congress meeting with his annual Work Report and revealed a growth target of lowest “around 5%”, the lowest since 1976. For decades, the country had expanded by more than 10% annually. Even though China missed its target last year by a wide margin due to its zero-Covid policy, not many people expected this low of a target from Xi Jinping’s government. This highlights the domestic and global challenges the world’s second-largest economy is facing. What will China’s economic outlook will look like? What kind of economic policy will China need to adopt to revive its economy? Where is the future of the U.S-China economic relationship? Join us for a conversation with Dr. Yukon Huang, Senior Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and Former Work Bank’s country director for China on Tuesday, March 28th from 12 PM to 1:15 PM ET. This webinar is the 2nd of Network 20/20’s Deep Dives: China program.

About the Program

The goal of Network 20/20’s Deep Dives is to provide multi-layered and informative discussions encompassing a critical topic in geopolitics–in this case the rise of China–through a series of briefings with high-level experts. For the first time ever, we are excited to announce that this year’s Deep Dives: China will be virtual to widen the scope of participation for individuals from all around the world.

This is the second session of a total of six dynamic virtual sessions and two discussion groups, participants will have the unique opportunity to learn from and interact with experts and other participants, and refine their knowledge on China and its growing impact on the world. The framing question for this year’s Deep Dives: China is, “How can we understand China’s objectives at home and abroad?”
