EU Security and the Future of Transatlantic Relations

EU Security and the Future of Transatlantic Relations

Virtual Member-Only Briefing

October 25, 2022 | 6:00 PM – 7:15 PM ET

When President Biden and his team came to the office, they had a clear sense of priority: shifting the U.S. foreign policy’s focus from the Middle East and Europe to the Asia Pacific. At the same time, the EU was planning the Strategic Compass, an EU security independence strategy. However, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine triggered a reassessment of U.S. foreign policy priorities and transatlantic relations. How does the EU plan to provide security to the region in light of the invasion? As winter is coming, how does the EU maintain its energy security given the dependence of several major European economies on Russian energy? How does it affect the climate change commitment of the Union? And lastly, what does the future hold for EU-U.S. relations? Join us on Tuesday, October 25 at 6 PM PM ET to explore these questions and more in a private, off-the-record conversation with Ambassador Michael Curtis, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to the United States where we will discuss the topic of EU security independence and the future of transatlantic relations amidst the invasion of Ukraine.
