Communications Intern
Zara Gounden is a Davis Scholar at NYU, pursuing a degree in Politics, Rights, and Development with a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies. Through her studies at six of NYU’s international campuses, including London, Abu Dhabi, and Tel Aviv, she has gained a deep, culturally diverse understanding of global issues. As the recipient of the Davis Projects for Peace prize, she secured $10,000 and helped raise an additional $20,000 to support Twenty Miles More, a youth-led initiative she co-founded. This project sheds light on the complex links between the migrant reception crisis in Europe, climate change, and rising border tensions between France and Italy. Zara’s passion is rooted in exploring how climate change amplifies terrorism, especially in the African Sahel. She has also worked as a reporting intern at Circle of Blue, a nonprofit environmental newsroom, where she contributed to stories and developed creative graphics focused on water security.
