Maria Teresa De Lasa

Bio

I am a Cuban American, and have lived in the United States since 1961, when I left Cuba. I am married, have four children and thirteen grandchildren. My husband’s career has taken us on many trips around the world. We have lived in New York, Chicago, and Brussels, Belgium. Throughout the years, I have developed a great interest in international affairs. While in Chicago, I was involved in the “International Association of Women,” where women from different parts of the world participate in sharing their culture and learning from one another.

I was unable to begin my university education in Cuba because it was interrupted when the Castro revolution took over the country. I spent two years at the State University of New York, but had to interrupt my studies for family reasons.

During my husband’s years at Yale I worked at the Yale Art Gallery on a comprehensive exhibit on latin american art. I have continued my education through on going university classes at NYU and University of Miami.

I am on the New York committee of “Friends of Caritas Cubana (FCC),” a non-profit based in Boston. FCC is now the largest NGO working in Cuba. We have traveled to Cuba many times to see the extraordinary work of this organization. Furthermore, I am an avid reader, love to cook, and go for long walks. Above all, my family and friends are paramount.
