H.E. Mr. Tsuneo Nishida, former Ambassador of Japan to the United Nations

Professor Tsuneo Nishida is professor by special appointment and director of Institute for Peace Science, Hiroshima University (Japan).

Prof. Nishida has served as deputy director general of the European and Oceanic Affairs Bureau and as director general of the Economic Cooperation Bureau in Tokyo. Working for Japan’s Foreign Ministry since 1970, he was in the Japanese Embassies in the USSR and in the USA, and was also the Japanese Consul-General in Los Angeles between August 1999 and March 2001. In 2002, he was appointed deputy vice-minister of foreign policy and director general of the Foreign Policy Bureau. From 2005 to 2007, he was deputy minister for foreign affairs. He was then appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Canada, and from 2010 to 2013 he was Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations.
