H.E. Mr. Adamantios Th. Vassilakis, former Ambassador of Greece to the United Nations
Ambassador Adamantios Th. Vassilakis is a career diplomat. He served as Greek Ambassador to the United Nations from 2002 – 2007. His previous posts include director general for European Affairs and director of
the Center for Analysis and Planning of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as deputy permanent representative to the European Union (Brussels) and consul general in San Francisco. He studied political and diplomatic sciences at Free University of Brussels and is fluent in English and French.
H.E. Mr. Anastassis Mitsialis, former Ambassador of Greece to the United Nations
Mr. Mitsialis served as Greek Ambassador to the United Nations from 2009 – 2013. At the time of his appointment, Mr. Mitsialis was Chief of Protocol in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2007. He was Ambassador to Italy between 2004 and 2007, having served as the Foreign Ministry’s Director-General of Personnel Administration from 2002 to 2004.
In 2001, Mr. Mitsialis was named Director in the Department of Political Relations with the United States and Canada following service as Ambassador to Israel from 1999 to 2001, and to Argentina from 1995 to 1999.
Mr. Mitsialis served a previous term as Chief of Protocol between 1993 and 1995, and was Deputy Director in the Department of Political Relations with Western Europe from 1991 to 1993. He also saw service as Consul General in London (1987-1991) and held a similar position in Johannesburg, South Africa (1984-1987).
Having joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an attaché in 1975, Mr. Mitsialis’ first overseas postings were to Rome (1978-1981), and to the Permanent Mission of Greece to the United Nations in Geneva (1981-1984).
Mr. Mitsialis earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and public law from the University of Athens.
Born in Athens in 1952, he is married and has two children.
