Powerful Peacebuilding through Jobs:
Empowering Youth in the Middle East Today

An evening reception featuring a conversation with global leaders working to alleviate the critical challenges faced by Syrian refugees and youth in the Middle East today. The panel discussion will feature Ambassador Sima Bahous, Permanent Representative from Jordan to the United Nations, Florencia Spangaro, Director of Programs at the Citi Foundation, and Andrew Baird, CEO of Education For Employment.

Ambassador Sima Bahous has served as Jordan’s Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations in New York since August 2016. Before that role, Dr. Bahous served as Assistant Secretary-General for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Director of the UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Arab States.

 

Florencia Spangaro is Director of Programs at the Citi Foundation, heading up Citi’s global grant programs. In this capacity, she leads the Program team in strategy design and execution of key initiatives. Before joining Citi, Florencia worked for the Argentine government and held various positions in the NGO sector, specifically in the area of human rights.

 

 

Andrew Baird is the President & CEO of Education For Employment (EFE), the Middle East and North Africa’s leading organization linking unemployed youth to in-demand skills and tangible job opportunities. EFE uses job training and placement programming to assist youth across 9 countries, including: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Yemen, and the UAE.
