“Turkey: Bridging Foreign Policy between East and West”

Ambassador Robert P. Finn, Associate Research Scholar in the Liechtenstein Institute of the Woodrow Wilson School of International Affairs, provides a cutting edge perspective on the interconnection between policy, energy, business and religion in Turkey’s foreign affairs. With his extensive expertise and diplomatic service in the region, Ambassador Finn further explores the question of Turkey’s long-term political and economic stability, as it continues to emerge as critical player in global politics.

Prior to his experience as a lecturer and research scholar at Princeton University, Ambassador Finn served as the first U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan in more than 20 years, in 2002, and has also been U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan. Other diplomatic postings include Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, Turkey; Lahore, Pakistan; and Zagreb, Croatia, and opened the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan in 1992. He is the author of the book The Early Turkish Novel, which has been published both in English and Turkish, and has received numerous awards, including two Presidential Meritorious Service Awards and one for heroism. Ambassador Finn holds a B.A. in American Literature and European History from St. John’s University, an M.A. in Near Eastern Studies from New York University, and an M.A. and Ph.
